Sports Fanaticism

Sports fanaticism is delusion.

When we care about something, we develop sympathetic feelings for it. This is advantageous because it compels us to guide our offspring and those in whom we find merit to excellence. Sports fanaticism is this sort of attachment, but it is artificial. We have no loss or gain by the outcome of a sporting event, and the only merits we see in these teams are terminal; that is, they do not lead to anything further than the inconsequential sporting event. Our passion is much better spent in supporting something we can actually influence, and which can influence other things for the better.
